A Successful Step

At what point did our culture become one that defines a “successful step forward” as going from 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds while neglecting to enjoy any of the moments in between?  At what point did we resolve to allow “success” to be labeled by millions of dollars rather than be marked by an individual making progress toward the purpose they know they were born to fulfill?

Choose to silence this nonsense.

Why can’t a couple opening a small town restaurant and spending their lives loving and serving their customers by building a “home-type feel” be considered just as successful as running a billion dollar company if that couple is fulfilling their dreams and their passions?

When it comes to pursuing your passions and your dreams, it is important that, first and foremost, you tune out what society defines as “successful”. Instead, you must remember that you truly gain success when you listen to that small voice inside of you that is saying, “this is who you were meant to be” and you run after it with all of your heart. Once you have done that, you have truly taken the first step toward your personal success.

What is that voice whispering to you?

You might be surprised to learn that, with the right perspective, every single step after that first step is a successful one; even a step backward.  See, success, when measured by the pursuit of our own individual passions, desires, and dreams, is more about progress than the destination. Forward movement and forward motion is something to be applauded, rather than criticized as it often is in society. Furthermore, a step backward should be considered successful because it allows you to reevaluate, make adjustments, and continue moving forward.

So, how do you, dear reader, need to change your perspective to gain the motivation to continue moving forward toward your dream? What is attainable for you right now, in this moment? What small steps do you need to redirect your energy toward? Instead of resolving to be discouraged by the big picture and how insignificant your small steps may seem in comparison, instead ask yourself what small steps can you take toward your goal that will encourage you, and allow you to remember that each and every small step forward is an important one?

What small steps have you taken lately that you might have actually been positive ones even though they felt like insignificant ones?

As long as your remain in motion with the compass of your heart set on what it is that you want most, you might realize that you are already exactly where you want to be: enjoying the ride. Take great caution to enjoy every small step and choose to be encouraged by progress. Do not rush the process, for someday you may look back on the journey and regret that you didn’t enjoy it more.  This is how you truly will learn to enjoy the ride of your own success story.
